As the problems of energy lack and environment pollution are becoming increasingly serious, Electric Vehicle(EV) is becoming a kind of fast-developing vehicle which has the merit of zero emission and low noise. However, there are still many problems to be solved in order to develop this kind of vehicle. Battery and charge method are the key points. The main goal of this paper is to develop an efficient, rapid charge, easy-used charger.As a whole, an integrated charging device is composed of charging method and charging power supply. Charge method of mainly used power batteries is studied by analyzing battery working principle and charging character. This thesis focus on the rapid charge of lead-acid battery, including the factor impacting rapid charge and measures boosting charging speed. The right charging method fit for lead-acid battery is concluded at last.Subsequently, the overall system is introduced and function of each part is described. High frequency switching power supply is adopted to make this device light and small. In order to realize rapid charge, half-bridge DC/DC converter is applied at the output terminal which can provide large discharging current pulse. Based on TI's DSP2407, hardware circuit design is presented, including sampling, control, communication, and fault protection. Then, concrete hardware and software design of user interface based on MCS51 is described. Communication protocol between interface and controller is also established. This convenient , multifunctional interface provide different kinds of charge method to choose and can supervise the whole charging process.Finally, experiment waveforms are presented, which demonstrate that the design of charger can produce good quality waveforms and the whole system run well. The objective of design is achieved and the charger can be put into practice.
