The composite steel-concrete beam is a new kind of structure which steel and concrete is integrated by connectors to take advantage of respective properties of tension and compression. In the past several years, the application of composite beams on high-rise buildings, industrial buildings, and bridges home and abroard are more and more prevail, especially on fly-over bridges in cities. The current research on composite steel-concrete beam focuses on the building structures field, but the application on port & waterway engineering is limited, there is even no item of code about composite steel-concrete beam in port & waterway engineering.In details, following aspects are investigated:survey and research of the application of composite steel-concrete beams is done on port & waterway engineering; a systematic summary is generalized to the simple composite beam in load-carrying capacity,stiffness and deformation, including the flexible and plastic method, calculation of connectors and calculation method of stiffness and deformation.etc; comparison to one simple composite beam using codes of different countries is made (codes of China,United States and Europe) to draw conclusions; The calculation method of continuous composite beams,the load-carrying capacity of the section of middle support,the calculation of stiffness and crack width is also studied in this paper;still comparison to one continuous composite beam using codes of the different countries is made(codes of China,United States and Europe) to draw conclusions; the applicability and the economical efficiency of composite beams is compared to other structures (steel beams, steel trusses and concrete beams); at last the fatigue of composite is researched, including fatigue lives of composite,the fatigue of connector and the provisions of codes of different countries.Main conclusions : section area of steel girder using U.S. standardized calculation method is the largest, followed by the result of our code, the smallest section area is the result of EC4; the composite steel-concrete can show its advantages of economy and conveniency when its span is among 10~50m in trestle engineering.
