FE model of Xiangluowan bascule bridge on Hai-River—was built using finite element software ABAQUS. The structural behavior under static and dynamic load was studied for the bridge. Fatigue load spectrum was determined by investigating the traffic on the similar road. The research work includes:(1) FE model was set up for the entire bascule bridge with finite element software ABAQUS. Stresses and displacements of the bridge structure were determined for different load combinations. Response spectrum method was adopted for the seismic analysis. The Structural Safety of the bascule bridge was validated.(2) The structural behavior at some key locations (joint) on the bascule bridge was studied with finer mesh based on the Submodel technique in ABAQUS. The effects of element type and mesh on the analysis results were discussed.(3) The traffic condition of Tianjin Outer Ring Road near Chenghuali was investigated for 24 hours, which is thought to be similar to that of Xiangluowan bascule bridge."Standard motorcade"was presented based on the traffic survey. The procedure of the"Standard motorcade"passing through the bascule bridge was simulated by FE method. The fatigue stress spectrum at key locations at the bridge was determined.
