There is large area of saline-alkali soil in Songnen Plain of China, which has high pH (8-10.5). With the development of our country's economy, more and more projects are built, it's inevitable to go through saline soil area for building roads. It is harmful to highway construction and maintenance because of saline soil poor engineering properties, existing road disease such as large-scale road surface subside, roadbed dent, uneven settlement, road frost boiling and frost heave. Saline-alkali soil cannot use for highway subgrade stuffing because of the instability of it's the engineering properties. It is not only consuming a lot of time and effort, greatly increasing the cost of road construction, but also bringing harmful effect to the surrounding environment. Soluble salt contained in the saline-alkali soil is the main reason leading to the situation, so there is a certain practical significance for studying basic nature and engineering properties of saline-alkali soil.The paper study various engineering properties start with the basic property of saline-alkali soil with the sample in the area from Songyuan to Jinbaotun., The key is mechanical properties of saline soil, and explore that how to modify the saline-alkali soil's properties efficiently with crystallization of aluminum chloride, the key is impact of the crystallization of aluminum chloride on the deformation and strength property of saline-alkali soil. The purpose is to offer suggest and foundation for improving saline-alkali soil that can be used for highway construction projects and without road disease. The main content of research as follows:â‘ the classification, characteristics and shaping factors of saline soil have been analyzed, the physical indexes and basic mechanical properties of the saline-alkali soil are studied, completing to determination of the physical (the particle density, liquid and plastic limit graduation and particle composition) and mechanical indicators(compaction, consolidation and unconfined compressive strength).â‘¡On the basis of the above-mentioned studies, the experiments which consolidating the saline-alkali soil with crystallization of aluminum chloride soil stabilizer as highway's roadbed filling are researched. We mainly studied on the improved results of compression deformation of the unconfined compressive strength of saline-alkali soil, which added the crystallization of aluminum chloride; we also analyzed mechanism of compression deformation of the unconfined compressive strength of saline-alkali soil with changes in the crystallization of aluminum chloride content.Through a series of laboratory experiment, we found that the crystallization of aluminum chloride has a very significant strengthening role on saline-alkali soil, can effectively improve poor engineering properties of the saline-alkali soil. The compression deformation of saline-alkali soil is significantly reduced, the period of consolidation is shortened, unconfined compressive strength has been greatly improved after added the crystallization of aluminum chloride. With increasing in the crystallization of aluminum chloride content (0.5% ~ 1.5%), the improving effect is better. If the conserving time is longer, the effect is better.In short, it is a very urgent and important that the effective use of saline soil, scientific prevention of saline soil disease and economic maintenance of road projects facilities.
