The hydrological conditions in different waters and different time should be valued for the sailing ships. The capacity of ship sailing is limited by the narrow approach lane, shallow waters and tides in coastal area.While the ship sailing is at risk in the inland waters facing the reasons such as the changeable bed of river, curved and narrow channels, different water level with different seasons and complicated water flow forms. In addition, the project in or out of the water such as the construction of wharfs, bridges, and waterway regulation would change the navigation environment like the hydrology of the engineering waters,the main factor in sailing. Whether it is safe or not under such complicated hydrologic condition has attracted extensive attention from navigational administration sections and scholars. It is typical of ship maneuvering simulation experiment to be safe, economic and repeatable in the research of the ship maneuvering in special flow fields and is wildly applied in the navigation safety evaluation home and abroad and strategy research of navigating in and out of the harbour. However ,the hydrological elements which had significant influence on navigation safety were always supposed to be unsteady and uniform, and were set manually.Aimed to get more accurate simulation of the hydrological environment and the shipping maneuverability in the engineering waters, a series of the real-time simulations on the typical water areas have been performed and applied to ship maneuvering simulation, which enhance the environment fidelity and authenticity of ship maneuvering simulation.Three methods are adopted in this study. the water interference analysis on the basis of theory and experience, the real-time water flow and ship handling related to the numerical simulation, and finally the optimizing design based on the man-machine interactive experiments. Firstly, ship accidents in complicated hydrologic environment were investigated and the typical water flow were analyzed. Then, the flow interference on the ship maneuvering were summarized for the preparation of selecting what kind of typical water can be used as ship maneuvering simulation. According to this, the experiment scheme of ship maneuvering simulation based on real-time numerical simulation of current fields was proposed. In this way, the 2-D simulated hydrological environment ,approaching to the real one, can be provided for the huge ship maneuvering simulator. Then the real-time simulation flow field data were used in the ship maneuvering simulator and the dynamic simulation of ship passing through the engineering waters and the bridge waters were carried out by man-machine interactive experiments. Variation of width of track was studied and the quantitative analysis was made.Research shows that the ship maneuvering simulation based on flow field of real-time simulation can reflect the true water dynamic characteristics and the ship maneuvering characteristics.Finally, the conclusion and relevant regulations were applied on navigation aids arrangement and ship maneuvering scheme optimization.The research results may offer some references for ship officers while sailing in typical complex flow field,and supply scientific evidence for decision—making sectors. At the same time, it also offered certain foundation for the further exploitation of the dynamic simulation of ship maneuvering under other real-time simulation environment.
