With the development of our living standard, people pay more attention to the promotion of the quality of life. The traditional domestic appliance has been unable to meet the needs of a modern family. So the information appliance, which combines the informationization, networking and intellectualization as its special advantages, is a certain trend to enter the families in the future.At present, little research has been done on the internal architecture of information appliance. Under the background, the author of this thesis tries to research on the internal architecture of a kind of information appliance, demonstrating and implementing it.In this thesis, the author analyzes the main functions of information appliance, proposes the internal architecture of an information appliance described by XML(Extensible Markup Language), then researches and implements the main modules of the architecture.Combined with the advantages of XML , a standard of information appliance service description based on XML is developed in this thesis. This thesis also proposes a plan to implement a parser and provides the source code with C language. The parser can extract the information from the information appliance service description document and store the information into home gateway. Considering the information appliance must show some intelligence, this thesis researches on the plug and control module in depth, illustrates its principles and puts forward the solution of getting address, service registration, appliance controlling and the updating of the service description. On the basis of taking account of pros and cons of all kinds of protocols, the author selects UDP as the message packet transport protocol, designs a message packet format and implements communication between home gateway and appliance based on socket programming.At last, the author selects 32-bit Embedded Microprocessor S3C2410X as hardware core and builds B/S structure remote control platform of information appliance which implements the appliance controlling successfully. The experiment result shows that the internal architecture of information appliance proposed in this thesis is feasible.
