The development trend of consumer electronics products is information appliance (IA) in the 21th century. With the network communications and digital technologies closely integrated into traditional appliances, IA will have the functions of the information processing and network communications. Owing to more and more functions, the traditional circuit design method can not meet the need of the system upgrade. Using the new System On a Programmable Chip(SOPC) technology based on Nios II Soft-core Processor and IP core, Some algorithms and complex hardware interfaces can be realized in FPGA, which not only reduce the size of system but also improve the data processing speed. Therefore, information appliance control system will be researched in this dissertation. If the external circuit is unchanged, the system will be upgraded by updating the internal circuit in FPGA. Clearly, the design efficiency of the system is improved.The innovative study and main work of the dissertation are as follows:First, according to the principles and techniques of System on a Programmable Chip and FPGA, a new scheme of information appliance based on SOPC is proposed. The Top-to-Down concept is used in the design, in which the complex function and interface problems are resolved.Second, the hardware processing approach of Data Encryption Standard algorithm is studied, In view of the shortcomings of the 3Des software algorithm, the 3DES soft-core based on the Avalon bus is designed.Third, the kernel of μClinux embedded operating system and reduction methods are studied. By building the cross-compiler development environment of μClinux, the μClinux is ported to the Nios II Processor and the Ethernet driver is designed, etc.Forth, the interconnection of information appliances and ethernet communication protocols are studied. To achieve dynamic information exchange, the scheme based on Webserver + Common Gateway Interface(CGI) is put forward. Then the software is designed in accordance with it. Finally, the program is reasonable by analyzing the data captured from the network.In the end, the information appliance control system based on SOPC is achieved.
