In recent years, a variety of seamless pipe are increasingly used in fields of oil and chemical industry, boiler manufacture. Thus satisfies needs of development and production. The materials used in the manufacture of seamless pipe inevitably exists slag and loose material which may be a threat for security. It brings forming steel tube cracks or defects both in the surface and internal. As a result, non-destructive testing for seamless steel tubes has become an essential link in the production process. Ultrasonic detection technology is one of the main methods for non-destructive testing of seamless steel tubes.There are more full-blown technologies in ultrasonic testing of seamless steel pipe. But the technology for thin-walled tube of Ultrasonic test still exist many deficiencies in the subject of ultrasound transducer. This paper made a focus on the development of ring array of ultrasonic transducer to increase the efficiency of seamless pipe automated testing.Firstly, general methods of pipe ultrasonic flaw detection are stated and then we find out areas that need to be improved and gradually raised the special method to solve the problems.Secondly, we put forward the R50 5P probe to make up this array. We analyze the principles of deciding the craftwork parameter in the water ultrasonic examination and then discuss the properties of sound field of R50 probe. Thus make clear of its effectiveness both in theoretical and experimental aspects.Thirdly, we used the R50 probe to test the sample with artificial standard disfigurement and then analyze the testing data. We conclude the specific composition of the array based on the results of the experiment. At the end of the paper, we briefly introduce the detection systems with the transducer array.
