In recent years promoting constructions of all kinds of large-scale public museums led by the urban development, natural history museum, as one of an important type, nowadays has also gradually coming to the fore in this construction boom. In facing the growing trend, the author finds that no integrated or systemical research and investment on the architectural design of the Natural History Museum in this new era has yet been made today, moreover, speticific characteristics of the buildings themselves are not sure, therefore this type of project whatever is under construction or design few guidances and references can be used during the process.In view of this problem, this paper through assorting and analyzing some typical cases of the contemporary Natural History Museums which are known at home and abroad and of some characteristics, it mainly researches and introduces the current design features and functional requirements for the large-scale nature museums which based on the bidding schemes and examples for the project on building a new Museum of Chongqing Natural History, and sums up development trends and professional characteristics in the construction of Natural History Museum.Mainly from the concept of architecture, formation design, function organization, display design and environmental design launches several elaborations toward the research on the architectural design of the nature museum. It adopted comparative analysis; classifying and analyzing on the examples in combined with lots of schemes and examples, and described briefly its speticific contents in designing museum of Natural History and then make a detailed summery, meanwhile it explores to the method and strategies which can guide the current architectural design of the nature museum into practice.This paper is divided into six chapters in 4 parts.The first chapter introduces the background. It mainly introduces the background and objects of this paper, its purpose and significance, content and outline.The second chapter is the general information. This chapter talks about the definition and classification of the nature museum, general describes how the national and abroad developments are about, and briefly introduces the project of Chongqing Natural History Museum. From the third to the fifth chapter, the dissertation is the discourse analysis.The third chapter mainly describes the features of the architecture creation. It probes into the in-depth discussion about the methods for the concept design, architectural formation and Incisive point of formation. It also takes into the further discussion about its unique features of those methods to design.The fourth chapter carries out the discourse and comprehensive analysis towards the function design and space design of exhibit, including the compositions and functions of the museum layout, the external transportation system and internal space sequence, as well as the classified research on space display and exhibit method , also sums up the features how to display under the new environment.Chapter V analyzes the environmental design. It describes the concept and model on design of the Natural History Museum.
