Three-dimensional surface microstructures have a great influence on friction, lubrication and seal of surfaces. In order to investigate the relationship between surface topography and its tribological properties, surface connectivity and closed void volume analysis are used respectively to characterize the surface. An experimental study is performed to evaluate the effect of laser surface texturing in the form of micro dimples on a reciprocating machine.By use of mathematics morphology and digital image processing technology, regular concave surfaces are simulated. A section with bearing area ratio of 80% is taken as reference plane for surface connectivity evaluation and closed void volume analysis. The calculation results show that the surface connectivity index of regular concave surfaces is mainly affected by crater radius and the distance between them, and it increases with the increase of the crater radius and reduces with the increase of the distance between craters. The effect of surface parameters is more complicated in closed void volume analysis. To better understand the interaction, a lot of work needs to be done.Fiber laser is used to generate regular micro-pores on the surface of cylinder's dead center area, and the surface topography are measured and characterized. Tribological experiments are conducted on a piston-cylinder reciprocating tribometer. Tribological behaviors of surfaces both with regular concaves and without are investigated respectively. Results show that diameter and distance between micro-pores have influence on dimple quantity and average lubricant pressure in the contact region. When the distance is two times as large as the diameter, both friction coefficient and wear are small . After surface laser texturing, tribological temperature increase and wear decrease obviously. Results of this dissertation offer test data and design reference for the design of face contact tribopair such as sliding rail, sliding bearing and piston-cylinder.For other tribopair surface, the study results provide an analysis method and have significance both theoretically and practically.
