The photovoltaic (PV) system is getting wide application due to its environmental effects. In the development of photovoltaic equipment, it will be uneconomic and time-consuming with the platform composed of real photovoltaic cells that are randomly affected by sunlight intensity and environmental temperature. Thus, a digital PV emulator may shorten the period, raise the efficiency and enhance the credibility of the development by tracing the PV's characteristics under any work condition.The thesis introduces the significance of PV emulator, puts forward the concept of digital PV emulator with in comparing the drawbacks of analogue PV emulator. As the theoretical preparation, PV's output characteristic is described, and its model is built up.The next part of the thesis is an introduction of the operational principle and the basic configuration of the PV emulator. Based on the comparison and analysis of the performance and cost of several typical topologies of the emulator, the topological structure that is to be adopted by the thesis is decided.The thesis includes the control system analysis of the emulator. The stability and the dynamic performance are acquired according to related control theory, and the better static and dynamic performance, as well as the load adaptability is validated. The regulator parameters are designed by root locus. The correctness of the theoretical study is verified by simulation.A 3 KVA PV array emulator prototype was constructed with the thesis study, and the experimental results further validated the feasibility of the design.
