At present, controlling the leakage of water distribution has become a important problem concerned by the water supply enterprise even all over the world. In the conditions of the consumers paying more and more attention to the water supply demand and environment protection, the leakage of water distribution and its controlling have arisen more and more concern of the water supply system, especially in the city of water shortage. On the one hand the water supply resource is lacking, on the other hand the treated high quality water without using is wasted. China is a country of a large amount of water resource, while China is one of the countries with water shortage at available water use per capita. Therefore, the process of controlling the leakage of water distribution is imperative, the more technical instruction is required.This paper aims at reducing the leakage rate of water distribution, the western water supply network of a city in the middle area and a living area are studied respectively, the following research are carried out:(1) The technology of DMA is expatiated systematically, it contains the approaching chart of actualizing DMA, the designing ,management and maintenance of DMA, et al.; (2) To the western water supply network of a city as an example, the points of actualizing DMA are expatiated, the effects of DMA on the pressure of network and index of water quality are analyzed by EPANET2.0 software; (3) The minimum of residual overall pressure is considered as the target function, the research on the amount of the values installed in the network and the optimizing position of the values installed are carried out through the genetic algorithm. The results shows that it is not only subjectively programmed, but also combined with computer emulational simulation in the controlling the leakage of water distribution by using DMA technology. In this way, the limitations occurred in the subjective programming and the problems formed in the forecast of running DMA can be avoided, then they can be corrected in the following works. The effect of DMA technology on the running network simulated by computer shows that the effect of DMA on the pressure is negative, and that it can slightly improve the water age and residual chlorine. In the research on the effect of value position on the network pressure, the result shows that the more value is, the better effect of pressure adjusting. However, the proportion of the quantity of values to the pressure adjusting is not linearity, the depress of pressure is not evidence when the quantity of values reaches a certain number. The proportion of the quantity of values to the effect of controlling water leakage is linearity, the effect of controlling water leakage is reducing as the increasing quantity of values.
