Power loss is electricity energy which dissipates around power grid in the form of heat energy and corona. It is a natural physical phenomenon and can't be avoided completely. But there is also escapable and unreasonable part in power loss. Therefore, how to reduce power loss to its minimum level so as to realize maximal economic benefit is the aim of power loss analysis. In the previous power loss calculation methods, the situation when distributed generation(DG) supplies power to power grid is not considered. DG is more and more important in the distribution network with its development and application, therefore, it is of great theoretical significance and application prospect to research on the loss calculation methods for distribution network including DG.Firstly, the basic concepts of power loss and DG are expounded in detail. In addition, the current situation at home and abroad of DG is introduced. On the basis, the necessity of studying on the power loss theoretical calculation methods for distribution network including DG is analyzed. Then on the basis of discussing the basic principles of power loss theoretical calculation for distribution network as well as the basic condition required, the essential model for line and distribution transform loss calculation respectively is briefly analyzed. Meanwhile, the traditional power loss calculation methods for various loads and situations are anatomized and the influence on the traditional methods with the introduction of DG is discussed. A new theoretical loss calculation method based on power flow calculation is proposed in distribution network containing many DG, where the problem of counter flow caused by DG in individual periods is satisfactorily solved. The proposed method is simple and easy to implement. It eliminates and weakens the assumed conditions. Furthermore, it is helpful to improve calculation precision and can deal with distribution network containing arbitrary complex DG.Finally, an example is used to compare the proposed method with the existing methods and the simulation results show that the new distribution power loss calculation method containing DG is superior and accurate.
