Distributed generation has won increasing popularity because of its advantages. Meanwhile, the penetration of distributed generation in distribution network has exerted a series of negative influences upon the power system aside from the obvious positive ones. Harmonics generated by the wide application of distributed generation in the distribution network, causing problems such as affecting power and voltage quality as well as power flow, have become a major focus for experts in the power sector. This paper first introduces the advantages and disadvantages of distributed generation, the common types of power generation and the influences of harmonics on power grid, giving a broad picture of distributed generation. Then the common methods of calculation for harmonic power flow are introduced, followed by a comparison of their advantages and disadvantages, which justifies the use of decoupling algorithm in this paper. Next it specifically presents the harmonic models of major components such as electric generator, circuit and load, which are to be used in the calculation of distribution system harmonic power flow.Adopting the model of standard IEEE.34 radial distribution system connected to distributed generation, this paper first calculates the power flow of distribution network with distributed generation. On the basis of fundamental load flow data obtained from C++ programming, calculation of harmonic power flow is made on the assumption that grid-connected distributed generation mostly uses inverters, that is, harmonic source is produced in the location of distributed generation. Next such indicators as the amplitude of harmonic voltage component and distortion rate of harmonic voltage at the various nodes of distribution system model are obtained, then curves are fit to data through Matlab simulation and the results are analyzed.Through exponential and data analysis, this paper aims to provide reference for staff in the power sector and designers from manufacturers of power equipment.
