Several application modes of domestic relay protection channel have been introduced. The mechanism of four main kinds of self-healing ring architectures has been investigated theoretically. According to practical situation of Shanxi power network, the necessity and feasibility of the relay protection channel retrofit of Shanxi power network's based on four fiber self-healing ring technology have been analyzed. The relay protection channel switch devices that are suitable to be used in Shanxi power network have been selected and the corresponding network management system has been designed. The experiment schemes which are used to test the system performance have been designed, and the channel routing mechanism has been designed accordingly. The equipment and system performances, the channel delay and bit error ratio parameters of the system after been retrofitted using four fiber self-healing ring technology has been measured. The results present that four fiber self-healing ring meets the technical requirements of relay protection channel.
