Resonant fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) is an inertial sensor based on Sagnac effect to measure the angle velocity of rotation body, which is a promising candidate for the next generation inertial rotation sensor for all of the world. And the ring resonator is the core sensing element in the resonant FOG.In this thsis, the theory of resonant FOG is researched first.first the basic principle of resonator fiber optic gyroscope is introduced.And then the resonant characteristics of the fiber ring resonator is analyzed. At the same time,the resonant conditions are given,whose parameters are optimized by the numerical method. The main optical devices in the system and the making process are analysed based on the theoretical study, then make sure the coupling coefficient of the directional coupler that the fiber ring resonator development is completed. Testing of resonant is completed in the laboratory,the main performance parameters of ring resonator is obtained,the finesse reached 90. Such tests show that design of ring resonator can generally satisfy the system design requirement, also provided technical support to the research projects.
