Voltage stability index calculated on the basis of Power flow equation conventionally needs iterative computation of the whole system network,which is time consuming and therefore not appropriate for emonitoring.The voltage stability index,LVSI,has been proposed in this paper,which is based on branch power flow.The index LVSI is grounded on power transmission property of lines and the simple power system,and the index LVSI is simple and clear in physical conception as well as linear.The distance between LVSI and the critical value of 1 denotes the margin of voltage stability.And if the system is being deteriorated towards voltage collapse,the LVSI of the weakest line will approach to 1.Finally,combined with the sensitivity analysis,researching preventive control policy in load control when the margin of stability is serious is given.
