Low frequency oscillations of power system affect the stable operation of power grids seriously.Wide area measurement system makes the power systems develop to the wide-area observation and control direction.This paper studies on online analysis of low frequency oscillations,which is based on WAMS and prony algorithm.It researches on controlling low frequency oscillations by PSS.Online monitoring of power system low frequency oscillations mainly has two steps:data preprocessing and prony analysis.Prony analysis method is improved in this paper.Firstly,determine the model order through propagation prony analysis,secondly,calculate with prony analysis.The signals adopted from WAMS,as the input signals of PSS,control the system's damping to inhibit the inter-area low frequency oscillation and improve system stability and transmission capacity.It uses the idea of WAMS coordinated damping controlling.The calculation examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the method mentioned in this article.
