WAMS ( Wide Area Measurement System) is developed to meet the requirements of synchronization in measurement and wide monitor area of power system security. WAMS is helpful to improve the efficiency of it. The topic of this paper roots in the WAMS project built by HeNan Power Grid and HoHai University. The WAMS will cover the HeNan province. The main contents of this paper are as follow:1. Designed and realized the Data Server and Monitoring Subsystem of WAMS control center with the demand of project. The control center not only provides functions such as data receiving, recording, analysis and monitoring functions for WAMS, but also output datas to EMS and GIS. The whole system has taken effect in HeNan Power Grid.2. Designed a project of how to realize power system low frequency oscillation online monitoring by Prony Method. It is working as a part of the WAMS control center. The measured data in real system has approved the viability.3. Introduced the applications since the WAMS has built, such as the experiment of coupling between Mid China and North China power grid, low frequency oscillation in wide area of Mid China power grid and the cases of daily recording. All the application approved the value of the WAMS.
