Shear failure and the theory of shear strength of reinforced concrete have been the basic problems, many researchers have set up several models. However, there is no theory which can explain completely and be accepted widely up to now. Most of methods used by codes are semi-empirically and semi-theoretically on the basis of experiments. As a result,it creates waste under some circumstances, while it will be unsafe in other cases. So,it is useful to study shear transfer across cracks in reinforced concrete for building up equations to calculate shear strength, and for providing models to element analysis. The influence of reinforcement ratio, dowel action of reinforcing bars, and dimensions of shear plane on shear transfer behavior of cracked reinforced concrete were investigated both analytically and experimentally by conducting direct shear tests on 12 "Z" type push-off specimens.Behavior of the specimens under load is also discussed.Shear slip, shear crack width of the crack plane of specimens and the steel strain were recorded during the experiment. The experiments process were described and the results were analyzed to obtain the relationship between shear stress and shear slip, shear stress and crack width, shear slip and crack width, shear slip and steel strain, crack width and steel strain. The equations for predicting the ultimate shear stresses of cracked reinforced concrete proposed by various researchers were compared and verified by experimental data and results of other researchers.Equations which provide better predictions are modified based on the former analysis.
