Recently, the new electric bike is becoming a popular vehicle with environment protection and energy-saving. The leading place of the traditional DC motor used in the electric bike drive system is being taken by the permanent magnet brushless DC motor, because the DC motor has some inherent disadvantages such as limited capacity, poor reliability and high noise. However, the permanent magnet brushless DC motor has many advantages such as small size, light weight, high efficiency, low noise, big capacity and high reliability, hence it promises highly in the field of electric bike. This paper mainly works on the digital control system of the permanent magnet brushless DC motor for the electric bike.At first, in this dissertation, the main equations of permanent magnet brushless DC motor are derived, and the mathematic model of it is established. Then, the control strategy and the CPU of the control system are determined. Secondly, the control system of permanent magnet brushless DC motor is simulated with the Matlab/Simulink, and the simulation result shows the reasonableness of the control strategy proposed by the paper. Then, the hardware circuit of the control system with the DSP—TMS320F2812, the drive IC—IR2130 and the power switch—IRF2807 is designed, and the software of the system is also designed using the assembly language and the C language. At last, this paper shows a series of experimental results of the permanent magnet brushless DC motor and its digital controller, useful to the further research and industrialization. With the energy crisis and environment pollution becoming more and more serious, the electric bike driven by the permanent magnet brushless DC motor promises a huge market.
