Since the 1990s, domestic residential quarters face a thematic and branding era considering both environments and planning, after the hot concept quarters such as Europe Town, Med Climate and Blue Water Culture which are related to culture characters of cities. More requests on residential environments and landscape levels are claimed out, which results in the transition from single hardware improvements to software pursuits like cultivate residential minds and climates.The thesis, after investigation on large amount of related materials, firstly defined residential characterized landscape, which is an ambiguous conception. Afterwards, standing on city development level and from the angle of landscape culture development, the thesis analyzed characters and space layers of characterized landscape, and endeavored to study people's mental maps on residential areas perception and unveil rules in recognition and perception on residential areas, through analysis on mental expression of characterized landscape, in order to find out the methodology and discipline in landscape designing, and elucidated it with design practices.Residential characterized landscape planted in living environments, ought to be considered in space circumstance from 3-D angle, rather than only with a view to one or few elements separated from entire environments or addicted to planar effects. Based on the analysis of characterized landscape, from the angle of entirely microcosmic acting on macroscopic, the thesis hoped to complete the implementation of thematic landscape innovation, and create more comfortable, ecological and special residential environments.
