The Research On The Traffic Flow Simulation Based On Cellular Automata And Its Combination With Predictive Control Of Traffic Signal

In order to effectively resolve the problem of traffic congestion, improve the traffic efficiency and reduce the occurrence of accident, it is necessary to analyze present traffic condition scientifically and find out effective measure. In this paper, some research has been undertaken on the traffic flow simulation based on cellular automata and predictive control of traffic signal in crossroad, and some conclusions are drawn from the study. The main contents and contributions could be summarized as follows:1. Firstly, the traffice flow simulation model has been established based on cellular automata. Through the analysis of simulation, the model about the accuracy of dynamical properties is validated.2. According to the theory of predictive control, the strategy of predictive control of traffic signals is put forward based on the non-analytical model (the prediction model is established based on cellular automata). The genetic algorithm is employed to optimize the intersection signal timing.3. Simulation programmes are coded in VS2005 developping enviroment. Through many simulation experiments, I compare the predictive control strategy with timing control strategy, sensor control strategy and the control strategy based on the headway between arrived vehicles in the same traffic condition. The objective function is the number of vehicles passing the intersection or vehicle delay. The conclusion is that the control strategy can really increase the traffic capacity of the intersection, decrease delay time, and realize the optimal control of traffic signal. At the same time, the influences of different predictive time horizon on the control performances are studied.Through the research work stated in this paper, the research has been basically established on the traffic flow simulation and its combination with predictive control of traffic signal, and the results are anticipated. All of these have made a good foundation of future research.
