Due to theirs beautiful shapes and capacities of providing huge space without inner columns, long span roofs have been greatly constructed recently as large-sized public buildings such as airport terminal buildings and stadiums. When long span roofs tend to more flexible and light, the wind loads, among all kinds of loads, become dominating. Because of the complexity of wind loads on the long span roofs, the load code of building structures can't satisfy the design in most cases, and therefore a wind tunnel test is needed to obtain necessary information of loads. A large number of wind tunnel test show that the statistics characteristics of wind pressure is not only related to the characteristics of oncoming flow, but also mostly to the signature turbulence which induced by the building itself. So there is no an accurate method to get the peak factor of wind pressure history which disobey the Gaussian distribution.Based on above thinking, studies on the characteristics of wind loading on long span roofs, and proposed a discrimination method of non-Gaussian pressure history and a solution method for the peak factor of non-Gaussian pressure history, by using wind tunnel tests result. The main contents in this paper are shown as following:(1)Briefly introduced the basic characteristics of signature turbulence, focusing on analyzing the characteristics of signature turbulence of long span roof.(2) Wind tunnel test of National Stadium is introduced. Based on test result, the characteristic of mean and fluctuating features of wind pressures on long span roofs is also investigated. And the characteristic of wind pressures distribution on long span roofs is discussed in signature turbulence.(3) The characteristics of fluctuating wind pressures in frequency domain is carried out. Higher order statistics moments are used to characterize non-Gaussian feature of wind pressures. The method of chi-square test and Kolmogorov's test for goodness of fit is proposed to study the characterize non-Gaussian feature of wind pressures.(4)The objective-probability method and Hermite's Series Method are proposed to definite factor of peak value in non-Gaussian region and non-Gaussian region. And the calculation results of two method are comparised. And it is verified that quasi-steady hypothesis is inapplicable to the peak factor of wind pressure history of long span roofs.
