Rear axle is located at the end of Automobile Transmission System. Its main function is to increase the input torque from the drive shaft or transmission. It distributes the torque to the left and right wheels and drives the automobile. The quality of rear axle influences directly the quality of automobile. Automobile test is an important method to ensure auto capability, improve auto quality and enhance the competitive capacity of market. The paper will research and analyze the Key Technologies of rear axle fatigue life testing.Firstly, the paper introduces the definition and the significance of automobile testing technology, and the main testing methods of rear axle fatigue life. Then the author analyzes the capability and structure of the rear axle and the working conditions of the hypoid bevel gear. The following of the paper researches rear axle fatigue failure forms and the reasons, and introduce the failure mechanism of the hypoid bevel gear. The fatigue life of rear axle is estimated by Miner theory. Based on the structure and fatigue theory, and combined the national standard and some enterprise standards, the paper establish the test criterion of the rear axle to be tested. According to comparing the two rear axle test projects of open pattern and electricity-closed pattern, the paper decides finally to use the alternating current frequency conversion closed loading project in the axle fatigue life testing rig. Then the paper introduces the overall arrangement and the framework principle of the axle fatigue life testing rig, and analyzes the working principle and the design method of the driving system and loading system. Then the paper introduces the control software of the tester briefly. The testing rig working process and the project achievements are introduced at the end of this paper.
