Expansive soil is one kind of high plasticity clay which may bring roadbed engineering of airport runway heavy failure deformation. Using a mass of laboratory tests, the thesis researches the expansive soil in Hefei Xinqiao International Airport. Parameters such as moisture content, free swelling ratio, liquid limit and plastic limit, optimum water content and maximum dry density, unbound compressive-strength, shear strength, compression coefficient and compression modulus, swelling capacity with 50kPa pressure, expansive force, shrinkage coefficient and bulk shrinkage ratio were used for studied physical properties, mechanical properties and swell-contraction properties. On the basis of categorization methods of expansive soil and parameters of test, the paper categorize the expansive soil of Xinqiao International Airport. By way of studying the expansive soil under the influence of the lime and making sure the best rate of added lime on expansive soil of Xinqiao Airport, the date of added lime tests were contrasted analyzed. Qualitative analysis and quantitative calculate of the mineral composition are also studied by using x-ray diffraction method.
