This paper carries out a comprehensive research on the expansive soil of Anhui province. By laboratory tests on the typical soil samples taking from major regions, it comes out with the parameters such as such as the liquid limit, the plastic limit, the free swelling rate and the swelling force as well as the expansive soil swell-shrink characteristics of wet and dry cycles and the characteristics of one-way immersion swelling law. It outcomes the mineral components of the soil samples by the comprehensive adoption of X-ray diffraction, polarizing microscope, SEM and chemical analysis. Doped lime compaction test tells the maximum dry density, the relation between the best amount of water rate and ash doped of soil samples from the main distribution areas of expansive soil of Anhui province. It further researches influence that the moisture rate, the saturation, the porosity, the temperature and the dry density have on the unsaturated soil resistivity by using soil resistivity meter. It concludes the physical and mechanical properties as well as the chemical components of the whole province's expansive soil and analyzes the causes of expansive soil conditions in order to draft a expansive soil classification method, explore the relation between the medium-micro structure and the engineering properties. In the end, it puts forward some necessary data and reasonable suggestions for the project construction of Anhui province through the researches on the adverse effects and the improvement measures about the province's expansive soil.
