With the development of national economy and the increased concern for power quality, the SVC industry of China has formed. According to related national standard, it is necessary to test the SVC system by proper and effective method, which is of great significance to improving the reliability of SVC, guiding the development and standardization of the SVC industry.Stand on the characteristics of SVC plants, the national standard of China for SVC and industry status, closed-loop test for SVC controller is mainly researched in this paper. Firstly, a method to model an arc furnace for real-time simulation is presented based on the recorded field data. Besides, the Real Time Simulators(RTDS) implementation according to a real arc furnace distribution supply system was described which could be used to test the real control devices of SVC system. Secondly, considering functional properties requirements for load compensating SVC controller of national standard, the determination of some indices are realized. At last, the paper finished the closed-loop test for SVC controller on the evaluation platform and the rationality of the test platform is verified by experimental results.
