The Static Synchronous Series Compensator-SSSC is a new series compensator component of FACTS family. In order to highlight its superiority this paper compares the SSSC to the TCSC based on the study on their steady and transient performance. Then effect of SSSC on the main Protection of Extra High Voltage Transmission line is studied, and some solution methods are proposed. The FACTS components such as SSSC etc have challenged the traditional protection theory. This paper proposes a new scheme for series compensated UHV transmission line which combines the Wavelet theory, Singular value theory and information entropy theory according to the Transient-based Protection theory. That is Single-end Transient-based Protection based on the Wavelet Singular Entropy theory. And the simulation shows that it can efficiently distinguish the fault in or out area,and it adapts to the series compensated UHV transmission line.
