Reconfigurable Manufacturing System is a system that can response to the changing market requirement rapidly. It is a new type of manufacturing system that can adjust its production capacity and function by the way of reconfiguration. It is know as the top one of ten key technologies in future manufacturing, and the facility layout problem of manufacturing systems has always been an important aspect of research and one of the key technologies. In this thesis, the solutions to facility layout problem in the early time and based on parts family later after the completion of construction are proposed. Meantime the phenomenon of faciliy layout add/remove is studied. On one hand, the methods designed in the thesis can be applied to the actual layout of RMS project. On the other hand,it has the value of foundation and reference for further systematic research on such issues. Contents of the thesis are as following:Firstly, the development and current research status both domestic and abroad of RMS are reviewed,then research background is analysed.Secondly, the layout of RMS in the early time of constrction is studied. Models of cost and processing route directed graphs for life cycle of RMS are constructed. The method combining k-optimal processing route and reconfiguration cost is brought forward to obtain the optimal process route, then the type,quantity and order of facilities are determined for initial layout.Thirdly, aiming at the dynamic property of RMS layout, a simulated annealing algorithm which adapted to RMS layout is proposed on the basis of analysing the difference between layout based on parts family and traditional layout. The algorithm is realized by using C++ program, and on this base solving system for RMS facility layout based on parts family is developed using Visual C + +.Then, the problem of facility add/remove which is prevalent in the process of RMS reconfiguration is researched for further. The thesisi has analysed the effects of facilities with different shape and size on layout in the process of add/remove, and has defined the area utilization, overlapping of facility and the add/remove principle and so on. A thought combining simulated annealing algorithm with heuristic algorithm is proposed to solve RMS layout planning problem based on the facility add/remove.In the end, conclusions are drawn and the future research directions are suggested.
