Our country is being placed in the high peak that the large-scale infrastructure constructs period. The great quantities high grade highways and bridges are being built. At present, a large number of the old bridges in current route due to bridge construction initial level of economic constraints. Many bridges no longer meet the scale of traffic growth, can not meet the demands of economic development. With the improvement of road grads and improvement in technology, the bridges which need to be widened are growing day by day. If we adopt the reconstruction project, it is expensive, difficult and time-consuming, only to pull down the whole old bridge, will spend the massive manpower, the physical resource, the financial resource, simultaneously need to lengthen the construction period. If old bridge to be carried on being widened, it can take full advantage of the old bridge bearing potential, will get good technical and economic effects. The bridge widening design must ensure that the standards bearing. At the same time, we should make use of old bridge and carry on the technique reformation well, for attaining the purposes that protect the environment, reduce waste and conserve land and investment. So from a long-term and the economic point of view, to widen the old bridge become a problem which the bridge workers must face. However, to widen bridge isn't simple to put together the breadth to the old bridge, there are many problem need to resolve. This article is through the research to the xi-bao highway, on the base of several box girder bridges on xi-bao highway, and then regards these bridges as rely project. By using the finite element software for the analysis of large, then in-depth study of old bridge widening overall facing a number of problems: the foundation differential settlement, the influence of concrete shrinkage, creep and so on. Particular the longitudinal joints of stress between the old bridges and the new bridges to be widened. These have important scientific significance and value of the project for a large number of bridges that need to be widened.
