Coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is a key digital equipment of the reverse engineering. In this paper, the mapping and modeling system of the CMM is the main study, including how to collect the surface data of the workpiece with high efficiency, and then translate the dada into three-dimensional digital model.Through analyzing the structural characteristics of the CMM, the complete measurement of the workpiece is realized, a rotating axis on the basic of the three moving axis is added, so that the workpiece can rotate with the rotating axis. Through planning the measurement path, the circular section data of the workpiece is got. Reconstructing the curve of the section from the orderly points, and reconstructing of the triangle mesh from the orderly sections, then realize the mapping and modeling of the workpiece.In this paper, the method to improve the accuracy of reverse modeling is studied. The strategy that refines the data two times been used. First, interpolate the data along the measuring path, second, interpolate between the measuring paths. On this basis, using the methods of interpolation and derivation to obtain the horizontal and vertical tangent vector of the refining points, and then obtain the normal vector of them. After that, calculating the probe radius compensation to get the actual data, and build a more accurate model.
