Non-contacting mechanical face seal are used extensively in centrifugal pumps, compressors, powered vessels and other high-performance rotating machinery. The face friction property of mechanical seal is the key factor that can decide seal operating life and its capability.The dynamic information of mechanical seal (such as face clearance,temperature) plays an important guiding role to determine the correct operation of mechanical seal, control the normal operation of mechanical seal.In this paper, Based on research situation of monitoring technology of non-contacting mechanical seal, and the design principle of data acquisition system's hardware, the monitoring system's hardware structure of non-contacting mechanical seal has been determined. Monitoring system of face information of non-contacting mechanical seal based on virtual instrument is developed by the graphics language LabVIEW, through combining the technology of digital signal processing and VI. Data of non-contacting mechanical seal can be collected by the system. The running state can be monitored.Monitor parameters are seal face's temperature, seal clearance and so on. The collected data has been deposited and returned.The system has provided abundant data analysis functions.It includes time-domain analysis(autocorrelation analysis, cross-correlation analysis, feature extraction), frequency-domain analysis (amplitude spectrum, power spectrum, windows, harmonic distortion analysis), STFT analysis, seal clearance analysis and so on, and can carry on the detail explanation to the system data analysis function. The expected design requirement achieve by way of having verified the reliability of system data analysis according to the analysis of standard signals. The monitoring system based on VI can accomplish the auto-test of face information of mechanical seals and so on with one computer, which reduces the test cost, improves the test efficiency, enforces the system flexibility.
