According to the problem of outlet leakage of propane on the propane pump mechanical seal in the olefine factory of Qilu petro-chemical company, the new-type assembling non-contacting mechanical seal for propane pump was developed firstly on the basis of the principle of non-contacting of mechanical seal .Based on the analytic method, the upstream pumping seal and dry-gas seal of the new-type non-contacting mechanical face seal were designed respectively. Circular grooves on the mechanical face seal are used for strengthening liquid film on the side surface, improving the state of lubrication and restraining the phase transformation of the liquid film effectively. Furthermore, the steady state performance of spiral groove dry-gas seal was analyzed using numerical analysis, and the rule of steady state performance was discovered on the condition of variable speed or pressure. The experimental investigation proved that non-contacting running could be produced in low-to-moderate speed, and the conclusion showed that it had excellent sealing performance, small temperature rise and little friction loss. The industrial application of non-contacting mechanical seal indicated that the developed seal had the excellent performance.The thesis is useful and valuable for application of non-contacting mechanical seal on the light hydrocarbon pump.
