The losses which caused by the strong earthquake in recent years had made people understand the deficiency of the current seismic design thought either in the thought of seismic design or in the need of the community. In this circumstance, the performance based seismic design had been extensively discussed, and it was thought to be a main development direction in the seismic design area. As a non-linear static analysis method, Pushover analysis is an important tool of the performance based seismic design. In the method, the selection of lateral load patterns and the definition of target displacement are all very important, because they have a great effect on the precision of analysis.First, this paper describes the basic theory, research and applications of static elastic-plastic Pushover analysis method, as well as discusses the pros and cons of Pushover analysis more detailedly. At the same time, outlines the resilience model of frame structure.Secondly, studies one of the most important factor—lateral load pattern which has a great effect on the precise of Pushover analysis more in-depth.Then, introduces the common methods of the Pushover analysis, describes the "capacity spectrum method" and "target displacement method" for Pushover analysis detailedly in the ETABS software.Finally, according to the characteristics of the Pushover analysis, through the different examples of 12-storey rules and 10-storey irregular of reinforced concrete frame structures imposed by the "basic modes distribution" model of the distribution of lateral load, uses the "capacity spectrum method" and "target displacement method" for Pushover analysis respectively, Studies the seismic performance of the frame structure which under the 8 degrees in the rare event of an earthquake. At the same time, assesses the seismic performance of the structure, analyzes the influence to the frame structure, such as the seismic performance, story drift, the yield mechanisms of the framework. The result shows that through the use of a variety of Pushover analysis methods, has some reference value to the structural analysis.
