With high-development in expressway construction and expanding attentions to environment, the preservation of ecology and recovery techniques of highway environment have been attached great importance by the society. The west area whose arid and semi-arid climate has made soil and water loss, rare vegetation and poor ecological condition, which put forwards the preservation of ecology to expressway in the west is more important than in the other areas.In this paper, the conception of ecological greening is put forward which emphasize the area where is building expressway should be restored by the ecological technology under the guidance of restoration ecology thesis, and some expressway restoration ecological methods are also put forward based on the restoration and reestablishment ecology thesis.According to the investigation to natural environment and the environment along the expressways in Gansu Province, how the highway construction influences the air, water, sound, vegetation, and the variety of creature in arid and semi-arid area is analyzed, which reflects that the main problems in ecological greening of highway are the out-of-date idea and the poor knowledge on restoration ecology, and then the characteristics of expressway ecological greening in arid and semi-arid area are analyzed and put forward.Analyzing the functions, effects, basic demand, principles and protection techniques of greening in different area on expressway (slope, central median, interchange area, service area, toll station) in arid and semi-acrid areas with the geographic environment, the ecological greening methods for acrid and semi-acrid are put forward. The research in this paper is contributed to high-level highway ecological greening in acrid and semi-acrid.
