Highway which is safe, fast and com fortable, and it can produce huge econom ic and social benefits. it has a profound and extensiv e influence on national economic construction, and it is one of the most im portant means of transportation communication between regions, but also affect many adverse on the surrounding environment in the process of its construction and operation.This paper expounds the concept of green hi ghway and expressway, and discusses the highway greening developm ent process of our country, and briefly in troduces the foreign outstanding achievement of highwa y greening. This paper expounds the im portant node of Hunan highway construction and development process, and the far-reaching impact on Hunan’s economy, analyze and summarize four m ajor problems of expressway greening in Hunan area:The design of out of touch with the construction and management; emphasis on short-term effect but neglect the long-term effect; pay attention to the construction but neglecte maintenance; professional and technical level needs to be improved.This paper discusses the highway greening has six main f unctions; Traffic safety, improving landscape, nature protection, enviro nmental protection, production function and social benefits. Put forward five principles of plant selection of highway. From the four aspects which is temperature, moisture, w ater and pollution, expound the highway environm ent limiting factors and plants selection.In this paper, From three aspects such as the design requirements the selection of plant species, plant configuration to research the h ighway greening from the five parts, which is highway central separation belt greening, Cutting and embankment slope protection greening, Roadside green shelter belt greening, Interchange District greening, Service area greening, to. In the last form two expressways in Hunan Province, Daliu high-speed as the research object, introduces the general situation, the gui ding ideology and the principle of design, and then expound the greening landscape design content, so as to sum up the principles and methods to apply to other actual landscape design.We hope that it can make the participants and builders of expressway greening further understand the greening plant selection and configuration in Hunan, and for t he theory and case reference for plant selection in Hunan area and even the national highway construction, To improve the level of highway construction, so as to becom e a beautiful and ecological landscape corridor highway.
