With the development of State Grid Transformation Projects, more and more domestic intelligent meters are widely used in daily life. The traditional artificial metering will not meet the need of modern management due to its various defects. Therefore, the automatic metering system arises with the advantages of higher efficiency and fewer mistakes, and also a hotspot for the study of intelligent district in recent years.The paper analyzes the development status and trends of automatic meter reading system, and discusses popular data transmission methods in the meter reading system. Based on the technical standards of low-voltage electrical power meter reading system regulations declared by Hubei Electrical Power Network Company and the actual requirements of housing district construction, it gives a solution of the meter reading system, which applies GPRS, Low Voltage Power Line Carrier and RS-485 bus technology as its main communication modes. After research about software and hardware of automatic metering system concentrator, a wireless carrier concentrator, which satisfies its performance requirements, was designed. The wireless carrier concentrator uses the LPC2214 as its main-control chip, and has been expanded multiple communication mode such as GPRS, RS-485 bus, infrared and Low Voltage Power Line Carrier and three kinds of memory out chip such as SRAM, FLASH and FRAM to make full use of the abundant peripheral sources of the chip LPC2214. Software of the system uses embedded real-time operating systemμC/OS-II and multi-task mechanism to develop. The main software function modules include protocol analysis, data storage management, automatic meter reading, route searching and LCD module. Communication protocol chiefly adopts the protocol declared by Hubei Electrical Power Network Company and the DL/T645-1997's multi-function watt-hour meter communication protocol, which also can be extended. The bright spots of the system are LCD and remote system upgrade module. The using of LCD is convenient for the constructer to set the parameters of the system and test the making and breaking of link, and which can improve the efficiency. Remote system upgrade makes the continuously upgrading and maintenance of system to be easy.Currently, the system has got through experimental testing and been put into operation in many communities in Hubei Province. The stability of the system on site proves that the technical route and design method used in the system is feasible. Moreover, the system can also run stably in complex environment such as rural-urban continuum, and the meter reading accurate could be above 97%, which verifies that the routing algorithm and anti-jamming performance of the system is effective. All results show that, the system runs reliably. Therefore, it could achieve functions of reading in turn, and has played a positive role for the power user management and power supply quality.
