In today's competitive market conditions, the product life cycle is becoming shorter, and it brings a heavy task to the enterprise's product development. However, the new product can be developed rapidly by the adaptive product design based on the original products; as a result, it can deliver in time, seize the market first, and improve the comprehensive competitiveness of enterprises and sustainable development vitality. Therefore, the adaptive product design based on the extension is studied in this paper.First of all, the shortcomings are pointed out from the existing key technologies of current adaptive product design. The two types of contradiction problems between the demand structures and new-old structures in adaptive product design are given detailed analysis. The basic theory and method of extension is introduced. And combined with extension, the contradiction of demand structures is defined as an incompatible problem, and the contradiction of new-old structures is defined as an opposite problem.Aiming at the incompatibility problem, a method based on extension of conduction transformation is proposed in this paper. First, the incompatibility problem and the design extension element are defined in mechanical products adaptive design are defined, and the compatible function is used to determine quantitatively whether the problem is compatibility or not, then demand is mapped to the structure through the contain analysis of objective demands, the incompatibility problem is converted to compatibility problem by making use of a reverse conduction transformation based on the results of the contain analysis. This method is applied to the vibration plate of LED sorting machines adaptability design process to verify the feasibility of the method.Aiming at the opposite problem, a method based on transforming bridge is proposed in this paper. First it is defined the opposite problem in mechanical products adaptive design is defined. The meaning of transforming bridge is elaborated and compared with the TRIZ methods in resolving the opposite problem, the co-existence function is set up to determine quantitatively whether the opposite problem is coexist or not. Based on the conditions divergence analysis, the basic transform database is established, and the condition basic element is operated through the five transform operators according to the transform database, through the change direction control and the results of the change effect, an adaptive scheme solution is gained. And the method is applied on the gas Chainsaw handles adaptability design process to verify the feasibility of the method.Finally, utilizing the methods proposed in this paper, a product adaptability design prototype system is developed based on software VB6.0 and Solid Works. And the basic functions, structure, and operational flow are introduced.
