Pappis, Greece scholar, firstly applied the fuzzy mathematics to city signal control, many later author compare it's experiment result to Pappis'. This paper's author refers to many papers, and don't find any paper that realize the particular step of fuzzy control. If the step is no clearity, the next work put up difficultly. So, the paper realizes the step and compares different method result to it. To improve the car delay time is its aim.Firstly, the timed control is studied. Working on the signal control research of the single intersection at home and abroad, the paper calculates and simulates the traditional timed control technology via optimal cycle and the formula for vehicle delay which is proposed by Webster. Compared to Pappis's timed control, the rusult is accordant.Secondly, the fuzzy control is studied. With the development of economy and the increase of vehicle, the phenomenon of traffic block often happens. Thus, it needs advanced technique to improve the traditional signal control. The paper studies fuzzy signal control which is developed Pappis and simulate the method, the result comparing the traditional way indicate that the delay of car decrease.Thirdly, the fuzzy neural control is studied. The paper develops two fuzzy neural network control method (BP,Elman) to simulate Pappis's fuzzy control method. The result of fuzzy neural network control is superior the simple fuzzy control.In the end, the paper makes the general study of these four ways. Overall, the fuzzy neural network method is superior to the fuzzy control and the fuzzy control is better than the timed control method in signal control of single intersection.
