In recent years, the rapid development of the world economy promoting the pace of urbanization, but it brings the problem of urban traffic congestion. So, it is an urgent matter of alleviating traffic congestion and improving transport capacity. The traditional control methods can not effectively deal with complex traffic problems, some new techniques and tools should be used to solve the traffic problems come from the fundamental, intelligent transportation system is an effective way to solve this problem currently.The traffic signal control in urban areas as the research object, some intelligent control methods such as fuzzy logic, neural network are studied to alleviate the city traffic congestion and improve the efficiency of transportation.The classical fuzzy control on urban multi-phase single intersection is studied, based on the comprehensive consideration of the characteristics of urban traffic flow, a two-stage single intersection fuzzy control method is presented.On the basis of a single intersection signal control, considering the association between multiple intersections, a fuzzy control method for multi-regional coordinated approach intersections is presented. In this method, the average intersection vehicle delay is considered the signal control performance evaluation. In order to determine the phase of the switching sequence and green allocate time, this method takes into account the factors of vehicles queue length on the road between adjacent intersections and the average rate of the vehicle reaches in each intersection. Simulation results show the effectiveness of coordination fuzzy control.The fuzzy neural network is used for building the model of signal control for area multiple intersections with the traffic flow data. Fuzzy neural network is organically constituted by fuzzy logic and neural network, which draw on their strengths and makes up for their shortcomings. It effectively improves the learning and expression ability of knowledge of the entire system. Simulation results show that its application in the traffic signal control of area multiple intersections have good effect.
