As a natural phenomenon, lightning always goes with the adverse weather conditions in form of thunderstorms. It brings huge damages to both military and civil department, and it has been listed as the 9th major natural disaster by United Nations. Lightning monitoring system can minimize the losing with analysing and researching lightning effectively. Lightning detection is the core of system, therefore, accurate and efficient lightning location technology has been a research hotspot in that field.There are many methods for lightning location, such as MDF(magnetic direction finding), TOA(time of arrival), IMF(interferometric mitigation filter) and TDOA(time difference of arrival). Because of simple and high accuracy, TDOA has been widely used. Based on TDOA algorithm, the paper do research from two aspects of pulse-pairing and multi-sites location. Major tasks are as follows:(1)According to the characteristics of lightning pulse, a new match strategy is proposed, which can distinguish and match pulse from aliasing in time domain.(2)With the form characteristics of sites by Four-sites TDOA location, the paper constitutes the subsystems as the principle of location accuracy complementarity and then make the results of subsystems for integration processing.(3)It adopts a new method of calibration time, getting error rules at the expense of time measurement error, so that it could amend the result with GDOP(Geometric Dilution Of Precision).(4)Combine with geographic coordinate system, the paper develops a sites-layout software, guiding to layout the pulse receiver of lightning monitoring system.The masses simulations shows that both efficiency and accuracy of lightning location have obviously improved through above works.
