The transverse quantity has a decisive impact on the passing speed while the train passing through the turnout, meantime, it is also a key element that helps realizing the kinetics research and design on the turnout. In this paper, I study the transverse quantity of the wheelset when a single section of train passing through the turnout—No.18 right-side turnoutes with straight design speed of 250km/h—in hopes of offering some reference and real data support in future for the turnout research and design.Following theories are introduced in this paper on relevant theory on the transverse movement of the train while passing through the turnout: including hunting motion, transverse vibration occurred by the turnout geometry irregularity when the train passing turnout and relevant theory on the railway turnout structure features and wheel-rail rolling contact as well.Based on the wheel-rail rolling contact theory, I build up the integrated assembly simulation model of the train and the simulation model of the turnout track with the help of multiple-system kinetics calculation and analysis software—ADAMS. In this paper, I mainly study the transverse quantity of the wheelset when a single section of train passing through the turnout. In the establishment of the vehicle simulation model the vehicle has been simplified and only establish the model of the vehicle body and running gear. In the establishment of the turnout simulation model, only establish the structure model of the turnout under the conditions of vertical operating. Calculate the transverse quantity of the wheelset when train passing through the turnout with consideration of the transverse and vertical geometry irregularity of the turnout.Combining the features of the transverse movement while train passing through the turnout, I design the transverse quantity measurement system. In this system, the major equipments include: PSD laser displacement sensor, controller, data acquisition instrument and connecting cables, etc. And I also test a group of straight design turnoutes which is typical in railway operation in China.The turnout geometry irregularity has a great impact on the transverse quantity of the train wheelset. With the increasing of the train passing speed, there is a tendency that the wheelset transverse quantity increases clearly. With the same passing speed, the transverse quantity of the cis-outgoing movement of the wheelset is larger than that of the converse incoming movement. In the same conditions, when the train passing the turnout, the transverse movement is larger at the frog area than at the turnout area. This is because that the nose rail section changes quickly, that is, the geometry irregularity is short in its wavelength.
