Matrix Converter is a novel AC-AC power converter. Compared with the traditional power converter, it has a few advantages: the lack of DC-link; realizing bi-directional power flow ,the ability of four quadrant operation; the excellent waveforms of input current and output voltage; variable power factor input current. Because of such advantages, Matrix converter will be prosperous in the future, Specially in the domain of AC frequency conversion and speed regulation.Firstly, this paper briefly described the basic principle of the matrix converter, generally introduced the topology and mathematical model of the MC, discussed the realization of the bi-directional switch, presented several control strategies and commutation modes, and gave theirs characteristic of each strategy through comparisons, then point out the control strategy and commutation mode which suit for this paper research.Next, the mix control strategy were analyzed in detail, which is the control method of combining the space vector pulse width modulation and the rotor magnetic filed directional control. By analyzing the relationship of the switch function between the AC-AC direct conversion structure and the equivalent AC-DC-AC conversion structure, the indirect space vector control rule of matrix converter was deduced, and combining to matrix converter exchange velocity modulation system's characteristic, introduced the rotor magnetic field direction detection vector control of electromotor, constituted one fine performance mix control strategy, then calculated PWM pulse wave used nine section carrier-wave commutation strategy. The simulation model of ac frequency conversion and speed regulation for MC system was established by MATLAB/Suimlink simulation soft ware, and the simulation results showed the virtues of matrix converter and verified the correctness and feasibility of the mix control strategy, also manifestation the fine performance of the AC frequency conversion and speed regulation for MC system.Lastly, hardware circuits of the matrix converter control system based on the DSP chip was designed, including main circuit, DSP and its peripheral circuit, CPLD logic commutation circuit, drive circuit,voltage electric and current sampling circuit etc. The software was also designed by matching the hardware circuits, and the DSP algorithm program was written and got through at the debug platform.Through the theoretical analysis, mathematics modeling, computer simulation and experimental research, this paper discussed principal issues of the AC frequency conversion and speed regulation for MC system such as basic principle, commutation strategy and control model etc. Some valuable experiences and conclusions were given in the paper, which have referenced significance to further studies.
