There is no standard model of spiral inductors now. So how to create accurate,wide band and reused spiral inductor model is becoming the hot spot in the field of academia and industry. Based on that ,we studied the modeling parameters extraction of spiral inductors.Firstly,in order to supply accurate data for parameters extraction of equivalent circuit model.We used two de-embedding methods to measure the four kinds S parameters about magnitude and phase. The measured datas of S parameters are made into .S2P network file.We put it into the software ADS used the genetic algorithm integrated in it for the parameter extraction.Genetic algorithms depend on the input initial values directly,the iteration may converge to a local minimum instead of a global minimum,sometimes even non-converge may occur.Secondly,in order to obtain a convergence and single method for parameter extraction.A new approach named linear-function approach is proposed which is based on studying of simulation,modeling and iteration. We can obtain more physical extraction results incorporated with the measured data.This approach avoid the traditional convergence which is so accurate and so fast.Thirdly,in order to validate the equivalent circuit model parameters extracted by the linear-function.The inductor is used in the voltage controlled oscillator at 2.4GHz based on the (SMIC) 0.18μm RF CMOS technology. The layout of the LC-VCO was also designed by the software Cadence Virtuoso layout-editor. The simulation results of the circuits satisfy the design goal. So we get the result that it is an accurate parameter extraction method for on-chip spiral inductors.
