With the implementation of clean energy policies, CNG cylinder bottle as an important link of the gas car in energy supply, the associated machining technology gradually become the focus of academia and the automotive industry. This paper begins with describing the research background and significance of the subject, and these will be successfully applied to the design and development of the CNG cylinder bottles' end modular machine tool. Finally, the author have done a summary and outlook of the research, and pointed out that remaining problems and future research directions.In the first chapter, the strong market demand of the CNG cylinder bottles with the development of vehicles which is fueled with natural gas is described. Then the background and significance of the CNG cylinders's processing technology is introduced. By overviewing of the current key technologies of processing and the Machine Tool Research at home and abroad, the general shortcomings of product is found and analysed. On this basis, the key technologies and the modular machine design are constructed, and finally the main research contents of the paper and the overall structural framework are given.In the second chapter, to resolve the shortcoming in traditional machining cutting mode, and to resolve the problems caused by rotating the large-quality and large-size CNG cylinder bottles, and to collect the advantages of both the CNC machine tools and machining centers, it is necessary to develop a high quality, equipment, less investment, multi-process integrated, and wth fast tools' changer modular machine tool. By using Whirlwind turning technology, the problem that the large-sized cyclone CNG cylinders should be rotate in the low-speed can be solved; for solving the problem that various processes bring to the layout of the machine tool spindle and the time-consuming between processes, a layout with a shift multi-axis tools's change is introuduced. And these provide a full theoretical basis and reference program for large size, massive piece's high-speed cutting with numerical control.In the third chapter, the traditional open CNC machine tool feed means likely to cause defects and weaken the strength of the bottom of the bottle, so the modular machine tool control system uses image-based feedback to identificate and compensate the tool path error. And a model of image-based feedback and detailed outline of the digital image technology have been constructed, with the image data processing techniques and error compensation, the full closed-loop control technology base on image for CNG cylinder bottles's bottom of machining tool feed forms. The image-based feedback of self-adaptive feed method is a quick and economical error compensation technique to avoid the other way in the expensive hardware and complicated process of NC program. And this provides a new path to achieve a flexible, quick to adapt to each workpiece shape contour defects in the processing technology for high-precision computer-aided manufacturing (CAM).In the fourth chapter, In the referred traditional processing of cutting, fluid Lubrication caused environmental pollution, endangering the health operators, and severe tool wear based on a range of issues. This chapter put forward to avoid the use of cutting fluids, or using less cutting fluid quasi-dry cutting, and is committed to research and application of "green manufacturing technology". This article first introduces "green cutting technology", "atomized Lubrication cutting technology", etc. then introduce the concept of a new cutting technology, their characteristics, and their mechanism for cooling and lubrication. Comparative analysis the casting-type, dry cutting, spray cooling lubrication machining quality and its influencing factors and then focus on a variety of CNG cylinder bottles' end machining lubrication characteristics, innovatively introduced the spray cooling lubricant to this topic, and through experimental verify the feasibility and effectiveness.In the fifth chapter, the above technologies were applied to the practical development the processing CNG cylinder bottle's end and development the modular machine tools. It describes the combination of the mechanical structure of the machine tools' layout, transmission layout, electrical hydraulic control systems, feeding systems, spray cooling system, auxiliary systems, design principles, and also shows the effects of key components of the design drawings and layout plans. Only these technologies applied in the modular machine, can it achive smooth and high-speed cutting, fast and reliable tools' shift, self-adaptive compensation for feed, effective tools' cooling, flexible and environmental machine. And the automation, accuracy and efficiency of the machine tools have improved significantly.In the sixth chapter, the research results of this subject were summarized, and the future research direction are expected.
