Flywheel battery is a novel energy storage device which can realize energy conversion between mechanical and electric energy. The flywheel storage technology is that the flywheel storage system stores energy as kinetic energy by revolving flywheel in high speed drived by motor with power grid, and releases energy when energy lacks urgently. Because flywheel energy storage has advantage of high specific energy and specific power, non-pollution, long cycle life, has a great development in a short time. In this dissertation, two main key techniques, the flywheel motor and energy converter and its related technology, are investigated deeply, including hardware designing and debugging, simulating.First, flywheel energy storage system theory is described detailedly, so that the capacity of flywheel energy is proportional to the square of speed. Therefore, an important method to strengthen the capacity of energy storage is increasing the speed of flywheel. In order to make the traditional permanent magnet BLDCM is more adapted to high-speed operation, this paper presents a series of improvement measures. Including the fixing patterns of rotor permanent magnet, HALBACH rotor to reduce losses and high magnetic material being chosen. At last take a flywheel motor of 50000r/min for example, a low- power flywheel motor is conducted.Second, it analyzes the energy characteristic of the system, proposes a control method of PWM converter. In this paper, hardware circuit are also designed and debugged, besides, software diagram are designed simply. These mainly include: the main circuit and driver circuit designing; DSP TMS320F2812 controller system designing; the speed detection sensor suitable for the high-speed motor, as well as the phase current, DC mother -line voltage measuring circuit; in order to make the system work safely and reliably, it designed over-current, overvoltage, overheating protection circuit.Finally, the models of flywheel motor on charge and generator are built, based on charge and generate control strategy, simulating the course of charge and generate by simulink. The results showed that: on charge section, it is possible to make the flywheel rotate speed follow the trail of "S" type; on generator section, PWM control method can get a constant voltage output of DC side, and achieved a high power factor of the energy transfer.
