High arch dam is widely used with it be safety and economy. However, most of the safety of high arch dams rely on three-dimensional stability of arch dam abutment, It is a prerequisite that the studying on three-dimensional stability of arch dam abutment in arch dam construction and development. Thrust in the dam under the effect of abutment is to ensure the stability of the determinants of arch dam safety, so finding the analysis method with realistic as possible about arch dam abutment stability is extremely important.Actually it is the non-linear contact problem that the stability of the high arch dam abutment under the effect of thrust of high arch dam by it has been undergone a variety of external force and forming geologic body with all kinds of discontinuities faults, fissures in a long-term in nature. This paper has studyed the material elastic-plastic constitutive model, strength criterion, non-linear finite element contact problem solving methods and on the basis of further study of how these theory in general-purpose finite element ANSYS to achieve. It has calculated the one of the main load temperature field of high arch dam and has established the three-dimensional geological model of the dam bedrock fracture simulation and has analysed stress and strain of high arch dam in ANSYS order flow process, which be drawed up with APDL language and the internal function of the preparation of a variety of ANSYS. At last it has Analysed the spatial stability of concrete arch dam and the abutment by overload safety factor method, strength reserve safety factor method and the counting of the safety factor method. In this paper, the abutment stability of WanJiaKouzi arch dam in YunNan province is analysed by 3-D nonlinear finite element method. The result is contrasted to the one which is drawn by rigid body limit equilibrium method , and it is referential to design, optimization, construction, operating of the arch dam.
