Two kinds of hybrid poles permanent machines are separately analyzed in this paper.One is brush machine which is presented by Thomas A Lipo in University of Wisconsin, the other is brushless double-fed hybrid poles permanent machine which is presented by my tutor. The calculation and design of two kinds of machines are conducted from all-around in the paper, the correctness of theoretical calculation and design are confirmed according to prototype experiments.The working principles of brush hybrid poles permanent machine and brushless double-fed hybrid poles permanent machine are expounded by magnetic circuit in the paper.Mathematical models of two kinds of machines in the d-q synchronous reference frames are bulid respectively and operationally analysed.The analysis indicates that the machines have the advantages of high excitation efficiency and wide regulating range of the air-gap flux.The paper elaborates on the design feature of two kinds of machines,presents that the design cycle of hybrid poles permanent machine and points out that using FEM to calculate the electromagnetic field and using tooth flux method to calculate the winding voltage play a very important role in the process of designing machine.Simultaneously, the solvingprocess of calculating the magnetic field of hybrid poles permanent machine in FEM and in the tooth flux method in the hybrid poles permanent machine application are introduced.The paper calculates the electromagnetic field of machine in FEM, analyzes that every parts of dimensions of machine impact on the machine performance and fixs on parts of dimension scales of the machine.The analysis results show that this kind of machine can make use of the existing 4 poles motor core, thereby the design of the motor cores which are different rated capacities under 200kw are given. In this way,it can not only save consumedly experimental manufacturing cost of this machine,but also bring the convenience of design seriation machines.The voltage waveform, no load characteristic curves and load characteristic curves in FEM are calculated in the paper.The inductance waveform of hybrid poles permanent machine based on tooth flux method is calculated, the reason why the inductance waveform distorts is analyzed and aspects of loss of machine are calculated in the paper.The computing results show the motor has the advantages of low excitation power, wide regulated voltage and high operating efficiency.Finally two kinds of prototypes (brush hybrid poles permanent machine and brushless double-fed hybrid poles permanent machine) are desiged and trial-manufactured accroding to the computational analysis of machines.The feasibility and correctness of design method, the accuracy of computational method are confirmed accroding to the experiments.It lays a good base for the series design and optimal design in future.
