The solar simulator is the important equipment for the solar sensor' s ground-based simulative experiment, demarcation and capability test. Simulate the irradiance, spectral distribution and collimating of the solar simulation on the ground are used for the simulative test of solar radiation on the space aircraft. Solar simulator has been popular with people as the controllable source in laboratory. In this paper, the optical system consists of source, condenser lens, optical integrator, aperture and collimating lens. We use short-arc xenon lamp as light source of solar simulator in the system, which provides a spectral distribution close to the real sun. The ellipsoid condenser lens can fully converged radiation flux of xenon arc. To enhance the illumination uniformity of the system, we use a symmetrical optical integrator. Collimating lens formed by positive and negative lens can simulate the sun and to ensure the collimation of radiation beam. The paper discussed the operating principle, the overall structure and the composition of the solar simulator. It emphasized on the study of the optical system of the solar simulator, and introduced a design which adopt coaxial transmission-type optical configuration. We made a detailed on the role and the design criteria of the various parts. Meanwhile, we have made the optimization design aiming at the optical system of the solar simulator, and analyzed every factor which affected the capability of the optical system. The technical requirements is achieved totally through the analysis of the theory and the experiment of the system have been achieved the analysis of the theory and the experiment. It demonstrated that the design of systems is correct.
